CASE STUDIES
Delivering practical energy and carbon improvements across a range of sectors and organisations
Energy Audit for Hotel & Leisure Facility
An SEAI supported energy audit was carried out for a large hotel and leisure facility based in Killarney, Co. Kerry, reviewing energy use across accommodation areas, leisure facilities and plant systems. The audit identified a range of practical opportunities to improve energy performance, with potential annual energy cost savings of approximately €140,000 and an overall emissions reduction of around 48%. These findings were driven by a mix of operational improvements and targeted upgrades, including better use of existing control systems, lighting improvements and heating system upgrades.

Energy Audit for a Large Dairy Farm
An energy audit was carried out under the SEAI SSEA scheme for a large dairy farm based, widely considered to be one of the largest in the country. The audit reviewed energy use across milking operations, bulk milk cooling, hot water demand and supporting plant systems. The findings identified a range of practical opportunities to improve energy performance, with potential annual energy cost savings of approximately €33,500 and an emissions reduction of around 44%. The recommendations focused on a mix of operational improvements and targeted upgrades, including improvements to milk cooling efficiency and the installation of heat recovery on bulk tank compressors.

Carbon Footprint & Decarbonisation Plan for Food & Distribution business
A full Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon footprint assessment was completed for a 100% Irish owned food retail and speciality distribution business. The assessment established a clear baseline of emissions across energy use and key value chain activities, including purchased goods, waste and supplier emissions. The analysis identified the main emission sources across the business and supply chain, providing a structured breakdown by category. Based on this, a practical decarbonisation roadmap was developed, setting out priority actions across energy, procurement, transport and waste. Actions were prioritised based on impact, cost and ease of implementation, providing a clear pathway to reduce emissions in both the short and longer term.

EV Fleet Assessment for a Commercial Services Company
An EV Fleet Assessment was carried out under SEAI’s scheme for a commercial services company in West Cork, reviewing a fleet of over 20 vehicles including small, medium and large vans.
The assessment analysed journey data, fuel use and operational patterns to evaluate suitability for electrification. Findings showed strong potential to transition a significant portion of the fleet, with estimated total cost of ownership savings of €220,000 over five years and emissions reductions of over 70%. The analysis confirmed that most vehicles could transition on a phased basis without impacting day to day operations, providing a clear and practical plan to move to a lower cost, lower carbon fleet.

ISO 50001 Energy Management System Implementation
Cramer Energy Consulting brings over 10 years’ experience delivering ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems across industrial, commercial and public sector organisations. Typical projects include establishing energy baselines and performance indicators, identifying significant energy users, and developing metering, reporting and control systems to manage performance over time. A key part of this work is supporting internal teams through training and engagement, embedding energy management into daily operations. The approach aligns with ISO 50001 requirements and supports certification where needed, while delivering improved energy performance, reduced costs and better visibility of energy use.

Measurement, Verification & EEOS Support
Cramer Energy Consulting brings experience in Measurement and Verification (M&V) to confirm that energy savings are being delivered in practice, not just estimated. This work supports organisations in understanding the real impact of energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects. Typical assignments involve defining baselines, selecting appropriate M&V approaches in line with recognised international best practice such as the IPMVP framework, and analysing energy data to verify savings. This is supported by clear, practical reporting for internal decision-making and external compliance. Work in this area also includes supporting projects progressing under the Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EEOS), ensuring that savings are robust, transparent and aligned with scheme requirements. Overall, this provides organisations with confidence that projects are delivering real results, while strengthening the case for energy efficiency investment.
